This time of year makes me miss my children's childhood. There were so many great memories created at Christmas time when they were young ... from riding around looking at Christmas lights in their pajamas to doing pine cone crafts with glitter and Mardi Gras beads. Then as a family we'd go shopping for a live Christmas tree and saw it down ourselves. Soon we'd bring it inside and decorate it with all their hand made ornaments while singing along with Christmas music. We also did our share of baking lots of cookies in our Christmas aprons to give as presents. Today my son is engaged to a lovely girl and visits us for Christmas and as many of you know, my daughter sleeps in heavenly peace. Merry Christmas to all wherever you may be!

Last night I had a Stampin Up workshop at my house for WWWW (world wide workshop week). I enjoy having my card making friends over and meeting new ones. I usually host a workshop once a year to help my local demonstrator and to get some "free" stuff on my Wish List. Chapelle Craft Fair This Saturday

Archbishop Chapelle High School in Metairie (my alma mater) is having their 13th annual craft fair on Saturday, September 24, 2011. I will be there selling my handmade greeting cards and my DS, Andree, will be selling her hand crocheted baby blankets. We will be set up in the gym so come see us! Our prices are very reasonable and we do this craft fair to support our ~~habit~~ hobby.

Scrapfest! Fall 2011

Scrapfest! is over and I've fully recuperated. I worked on scrapbooking the pictures from earlier this year when my aunt and her daughter came to visit my Mama. I bought 3 kits from one of my favorite vendors, Treasured Memories, which made the fun go quicker because the design elements were already done.

Using left overs from one of the kits, I was able to scrapbook a day trip this summer to the Saints Training Camp and a trip to the snowball stand.

Our group of "apron ladies" did a make-and-take together which was captured on camera, of course.

September has 2 big paper craft events to get ready for. First is Scrapfest! where I like to work on scrapbooking all the pictures I've taken the last year. I've ordered about 200 pictures from Shutterfly so before Scrapfest I need to organize them and round up the paper and cardstock I want to use. That event is Sept. 15, 16 and 17. Second is an annual craft fair at my old high school, Archbishop Chapelle, where I sell my handmade greeting cards. I share a booth with my sister who sells her crocheted baby blankets. I need to take inventory of my cards and if I need to make more then now is the time to do it. That event is Sept. 24.Here are a few cards I've made that will be sold for $2.

BEACH VACATION 2011

My annual beach vacation to Gulf Shores, Alabama was back on track last month after staying away in 2010 due to the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. I took so many pictures that it was hard to pick my very favorite ones for this post. So sorry for so many.

Father's Day 2011

Twenty six years ago my DH celebrated his first Father's Day. When our two children were growing up I was a picture-taking fool and I'm so glad I was. (I'm still a picture taking fool.) I had some extra pictures that didn't make it in scrapbooks that I was able to put this mini book together to celebrate his Father's Day in 2011.

At the end of the booklet I made copies of signatures from old cards I saved and glued them in. I am so glad I saved old cards too.

Today my own father, who I love so much, and appreciates my card-making skills will get this accordion card.

It is has been unbearably hot in south Louisiana but I've been keeping cool in my loft studio with my new room air conditioner!!! Thanks DH.

Since I've been in my studio day and night I've made quite a few cards using vellum, new Tim Holtz embossing folders, new stamps, new ideas I found on the internet, etc.

I completed these scrapbook pages over a month ago at Scrapfest but waited to post them for today's National Scrapbooking Day. I used pictures from my Gulf Shores family vacations in 2008 and 2009.

Now just recently I made this fleur de lis page using a new "metal" technique I learned from Lori, a scrapbooking buddy of mine. She learned the technique in a class at Scrapfest given by an employee of Treasured Memories, a scrapbook store in Lafayette, Louisiana.

It is hard to tell but the photo shows my funny Illinois relatives, Pat and Judy, holding crystal Fleur de Lis ornaments up to their ears like earrings. The ornaments were a souvenir from their trip to New Orleans in 2009.

Here is a scrapbook page I made at Treasured Memories. They taught me how to make 3-D flowers using paper, ribbon and fabric. Very cool.

60th Anniversary

My parents were married 60 years ago on April 28, 1951. We had a big reception on their 50th anniversary 10 years ago but they decided they didn't want to do that again. Instead family and friends showered them with plants, flowers and cards to celebrate their special day. Happy Anniversary Mama and Daddy. Treasure each day.

I readily admit that Valentine's Day is another celebrated day created by Hallmark but, since it has been around all my life, I jump on the hype wagon too. (Not so for Grandparents Day.) Here is a card I made for my DH and some girl friends using the letterpress plate by Stampin' Up on letterpress paper I bought at Archiver's. Unfortunately the picture doesn't show the pretty impression the plate makes on the paper.

Archiver's in Buford Georgia

I spent a week in Atlanta visiting family and enjoying peeking in to their daily lives. It really brought back a lot of memories of the time when I was raising my children. I was able to visit a BIG scrapbooking store in Buford, Georgia called Archiver's. I bought all this stuff but I've been too busy to play with them yet.

My first cousin from Illinois

What a happy girl ... so delightful ... so inquisitive ... so caring ... so grateful ... my first cousin Mary from Illinois. We call her Marilu. We had such a great visit with her the past 4 days but today she went back home to her 5 children, Kyle, Caroline, Conner, Emma and Ian. A big thank you to her husband, Jim, for letting her come with her mom (and my godmother), Pauline. It was such a joy to show her all that New Orleans has to offer....Mardi Gras, Seafood, Mississippi River, Plantations, Beignets, Saints, St. Charles Ave, and the French Quarter. She loved our accents and we loved hers. We especially love how she says, "Honey".

2011 Resolution

I was able to make 25 "Happy New Year" cards and send them out this week. My 2011 resolution is to make Christmas cards year round so I won't be caught with none to mail out myself. I also need to make gift cards for packages. I really hate to use store bought when I can make them. My personal goal will be to make 8 Christmas cards a month. So far for January I've made none.

35 Years of Marriage

Today we celebrate 35 years of wedding bliss. We were set up on a blind date 5 years earlier so we've known each other for 40 years total. He was my high school sweetheart and still is. We've had many milestone markers in our life together with lots of laughter (key to success) and some deep sorrow. Today we find ourselves reconnecting in our retirement years and with God's help (another key to success) we pray for many more happy years together. Happy Anniversary to us.

What I can show you are some cards I've put in my "to sell" box for Chapelle's Craft Fair on September 25. Chapelle's mascot is a chipmunk and the senior class picked their class colors to be magenta and silver.

Staycation on The Pelican Coast

This week I should have been on the beach in Gulf Shores, AL but due to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico I cancelled our condo reservations. Instead I decided to spend my vacation dollars at home and call it Staycation. With my sister, her husband and mine we traveled to Grand Isle, LA, had a few beers at a "Who Dat" bar & a seafood lunch at a local restaurant. We even bought a few souvenirs.

Even though the beaches were closed we ventured to get a look at the clean up effort.

Let us not give up hope that this oil breach is contained and the clean up is swift and complete. God Bless Louisiana.

I have a few cross stamps so I decided to make some cards using them all. Some stamps are mounted on wooded blocks and some are clear stamps which I mount on my acrylic block. The cards can be given for religious occasions such as Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation.

Easter Sunday and Feast Day

Today is my angel, Amelia's, second feast day. The day she went to heaven. Yesterday I was surrounded by lots of family at a crawfish boil to celebrate Easter. Amelia so loved crawfish and our annual Easter reunion. I was thinking heaven must have been an extra joyous place yesterday to celebrate Christ's resurrection and Amelia was there. Through God's grace I have a peacefulness knowing where she is.

Wild and not so Wild Flowers

Spring in South Louisiana is here! The rose bushes are not in bloom yet and the azalea buds are just starting to open. My yard is full of wild flowers and not so wild ones too.

This week the weather was so mild that I did a lot of raking and clipping dead branches. I know I touched a lot of poison ivy and, even though I used garden gloves, I already have a couple of rash spots on my hands. I cleared away vines from the house, around the swing and the path to the pond.

Busy Making Baby Cards

Recently my supply of baby cards was very low so I concentrated on making just baby cards for a few days.

It tickled me when I had to make and send two baby boy cards to one baby whose first name was Graham and the other baby whose last name was Graham. I dug up this one sheet of 12" x 12" designer paper with graham crackers all over it that I've been having for ages. I finally found a great use for it.

Sesame Seed Cookies

All day today I baked sugar sesame seed cookies for a St. Joseph Altar. The tip to get the seeds to stay stuck to the cookies is, after lightly toasting them, soak them in sugar water. You roll the cookie dough, one cookie at a time, in the seeds then bake them in the oven. I had those tiny little seeds all over the kitchen...stuck to the counter, stuck on the stove, stuck on the floor, stuck on my clothes. It was a messy job but I was able to turn out about 300 bite size cookies.

Hand Crocheted Baby Blankets and Hats

My DS hand crochets baby blankets in LSU colors of purple & gold with a matching hat. The pom pom is the cutest thing. She finishes off the blanket with bows too if you'd like.

If you are still enjoying Who Dat fever like I am, and your color preference is Black & Gold, she can do that too. She makes matching scarves also. Oh yes, she can crochet any color combination you'd like. I prefer all white but that's just me. Leave me a comment if you'd like to order one.

Scrapfest Spring 2010 is over

Another fun Scrapfest has ended. A big thank you goes out to the Scrapfest Chicks who organize it every year right in my own backyard. Lucky me! Talking about lucky me ... my ticket was drawn on the 2nd day of Scrapfest and I won five $10 gift certificates to spend at the vendors' booths. I also had 16 students attend my workshops plus I took a ton of pictures. With all the shopping, teaching, picture taking and, of course, socializing, I didn't finish the chipboard books I planned on completing.

Three Day Scrapfest

For the next three days I will be participating in the biggest scrapbooking festival in my area. I will be teaching a two hour workshop on Thursday, Friday and Saturday then scrapbooking the rest of the time. The vendors at Scrapfest are the best around so if I'm not at my table scrapbooking, I will be shopping.
Here is my entrance pin, door prize scissors and daily raffle tickets that I picked up today when I dropped off my workshop samples.

I am teaching how to make triangle tri-fold Easter/Spring cards on Thursday. We will be making a carrot treat box too.

On Friday I will show the class how to make slit/pop-up cards that are as much fun to make as to give.

On Saturday I will be teaching how to make a mini Flip Scrapbook that flips out to a whopping 15 pages/flaps.

If there was a camellia flower contest today then I'm sure my DH would win. Unfortunately he doesn't know their names so he'll never enter them. The warm weather made the buds burst open all the flowers.

A Black and Gold Mardi Gras

On the tails of a Super Bowl win was Mardi Gras. Some of our "Who Dat" Nation relatives from Atlanta, Rochelle, Emma, Sara and Alaina, were able to come down for a Black and Gold Mardi Gras because the schools combined the President's Day holiday with 2 unused weather days. Also Jude's girlfriend, Emily, from Shreveport, who had never been to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, was able to come too. We took tons of pictures but here are only a few of my very favorite ones.

Saints Win the Super Bowl

We all believed it would happen and it did...the Saints finished strong and won the Super Bowl. For the first time in their franchise history of 42 years it has happened. Oh happy day! Congratulations to the team, coaches and fans. Bless you Boys.

Super Saints

The New Orleans Saints football team is going to the Super Bowl. In the Saints 42 years of franchise history they have never gone to the Super Bowl. The city is beyond excited...they are ecstatic. The merchandise buying frenzy is beating all sales records.
The local newspaper, The Times Picayune, is on their second day of reprinting the newspaper because they keep selling out and people want more. They are only 75 cents a piece and the limit is 4. Here are pictures of our copy.

The T-P even ran an inside joke for the local, die-hard fans with Buddy D in a dress.

Around 11 a.m. today, J. C. Penney's put Super Bowl t-shirts on sale for $20 each. We bought 2 plus a hat and shirt just like the Saints players.

The Super Bowl game is one week before Mardi Gras and typically the French Quarter balconies are decorated in purple, green and gold. Not this year. It is going to be a Black and Gold Super Bowl. Geaux Saints Geaux.

Family Support / Enablers

Some people would call them my crafting enablers but I call them my family support system.
My DH (dear husband) made me a ribbon holder for all the ribbons I had in boxes.

My DS (dear sister) buys lots of cards and even takes orders so I can break even. I'm making Mardi Gras sets this week.

My DF (dear father), who had my name for Christmas, gave me punches and stickers. My DM (dear mother) gave me money and a gift card from Michael's Craft Store so I could replenish supplies. She buys lots of cards from me too.

Thanks for all your support. You are keeping me busy and happy.

Still in the Glitter

Even though the Christmas glitter season is over I can still use glitter because now it is Mardi Gras time!! It is fun to send cards to out-of-town friends and relatives.

It is too bad Valentine's Day is the Sunday before Mardi Gras. It gets lost in all the parades but here are a few cards for that occasion.
